[manicule] We are authorized by the friends of ALEX. T. HARVEY, to announce him as a candidate for Sheriff at the ensuing election.

We are authorized by the friends of R H BOURDEAUX to announce him as a candidate for Probate Clerk at the ensuing election.

We are authorized to announce W. H. CURTIS, as a candidate for probate Clerk of Lauderdale County at the ensuing October election.

We are authorised to announce W. H. WEST, as a Candidate for Judge of Probate, of Clark County, at the ensusing election.

Murdered by an Indian——The Indian Hung.

——About a week ago, Bannister Allen, of Chun-key Station, disappeared. The last known of him he had gone fishing. He was tracked down to Chunkey river, and a bare-foot track seemed to follow, and that was all that could be then discovered of him. Subsequently, the body was found below the point of his approach to the river. He had been shot through the head, the ball entering the back of the head and coming out at the mouth. His pockets had been rifled of their contents. From some signs, it was inferred that he fell forward into the water when shot, and that the murderer fished out the body, rifled the pockets, and threw it back in the water. Sus

picion attached to some Choctaw Indians, by reason of the bare foot track which seemed to have followed Allen, and could be seen about the banks of the stream. Several In-dians were put under arrest. One of them at last proposed, if they would let him go, that he would bring up the real murderer. The proposition was accepted, he went and brought him, as further investigations seem to have demonstrated. Allen had bought some squirrels from the Indian on the day of his murder, and taking out his purse to pay him, had exibited some of its contents. It is believed that the murderer got the impres-sion that he had a considerable sum, but he only got about three dollars. The purse and other valuables about Allen's person have been recovered they were found in the pos-session of the Indian's mother. The citizens, having thoroughly satisfied themselves of his guilt, determined that he must die and at once. We understand that, finding conceal-ment could no longer avail him, he made a clean breast, and confessed to the killing Evening before last he was hung by the people.

A strange spirit of deviltry has got into this little remnant of the tribe which has been permitted to remain here. Their inoffensive-nese heretofore has been their protection, and gained for them the good will of the whites. About two months ago, a young man of the same band, killed a man in Clark county for one dollar and his shoes and pants. The Choctaws have prided themselves in always h v ng been the white man's friend, and boasted that they never spilled white blood. These two murders are giving the lie to their claims, and laying the foundation for their extermination. People will naturally begin to feel unsafe when they know Indians to be roaming the woods about them with guns. Perhaps they had best now be pushed over, or into, the Father of Waters.

Your petitioners would respectfully show. that the Indians in this part of the State, are behaving very badly= about the 15th March Capt. Lard of Clark County Miss was shot through the hed by an Indian, his clothes taken off his pocket where and his body covered up in the leaves—On 30th April Banister Allen a worthy young man of this place while fishing not more than a half mile from his store was shot through the hed by an Indian of the Same tribe pocket when of 13. in la fart of his clothes taken, and his body thrown into theriver.

Now in view of the safty of the community and the protection of the inersant Indians [?] petitioners would ask that this small body of Indians be disarmed and not permitted to straggle through the country with their guns as thy have been doing heretofore,Your petitioners would prey &c—
